The Windsor is one of the most archetypal of English vernacular chairs. It was made in components, namely ‘spindles’ and ‘bows’, which were turned and steam bent by the ‘Bodgers’ who lived and worked in the woods, managing and coppicing the trees. The parts were supplied to workshops in the nearby town who assembled the chair and added the seat. This particular form of Windsor, known as a ‘comb back’, has the unique rare feature of an upholstered panel in the back incorporating Morocco grain leather.
